Las Cruces, New Mexico
“The Prado in Las Cruces,” a traveling show, opened with great fanfare and dignitaries from Spain and Mexico this past September at the Art Ramble on Main Street in Las Cruces. The show was more of an exercise in good will, cultural innovation, and community engagement; then, cutting-edge content.
Attendees were greeted by smiley security guards, breaking with the traditional museum going experience. Tours and education were a major focus of this exhibition: Topics included: Religion, Works of the Spanish Masters, Portraiture, Landscapes/Still Life, The Human Form, Mythology, and Royalty. The collection featured artwork of Diego Velázquez, Francisco de Goya, Titian, Rubens, and El Greco among others. The exhibit was also listed as one of USA Today’s “Top 25 Must-See Exhibits in 2018”.
